Slot canyons

Two weeks ago we got permits to do both Keyhole and Pine Creek in Zion. Keyhole is a short beginner rappelling canyon and a great way to get your feet wet before Pine Creek which is a bit hairier. Although we live in the desert, flash floods were predicted for the afternoon so we had to be satisfied with just Keyhole. This is maybe only a mile or two in length but with a short but steep uphill hike in to the slot and a series of rappels to get through it took us nearly the whole morning.

Here I am on my very first canyon rappel ever. The inner tube is for a friend's eleven year old daughter who came along for the fun.
